Hey there,

With Sqoop 1.x, the best seems to be calling the command line utility
directly. In Sqoop 2.x, there will be an HTTP like interface that should be
language agnostic.

Sqoop doesn't really use thrift directly. Check out
http://thrift.apache.org/ for more info on thrift.
