Filters are part of Servlet specs..This means they are supposed to be used in web app:-))

The only reason they are not part of Struts implementation is that Struts was developed way
before the Filters were introduced.

But surely struts future implementations will start using filters whereever appropriate.There
was even a discussion on struts dev mailing list in this regard.

We do routinely, to try to keep users on the approved path through the
application.
