I assume you are on thrift 0.9.1

Based on your rspec versions I can confirm that you are seeing
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/THRIFT-2184

Your options as I see it are one of the following
(1) Wait for 0.9.2
(2) Use HEAD instead of 0.9.1
(3) cherry-pick 507740c93c795b9d1f927909456962ec64f67b65
(4) Install rspec 2.10 and UNINSTALL the current one (or use an alternate
GEM_HOME)
