running bootstrap.sh prior to that gave me these warnings. Thought i should mention them since
they could be related.

this is a new issue and relates to attempts in compiling thrift on Windows in Cygwin environment.
I did not make any progress using the Visual Studio. It just does not work.

However I'm following up the instructions mentioned here (https://thrift.apache.org/docs/install/windows)
for Cygwin.
