Stef Ald commented on TIKA-93:

Just installed tesseract, maven2, and tika on osx 10.9. It looks like the TesseractOCR parser
was installed (3 tests were run, taking about 4 seconds). When I run "java -jar tika-app/target/tika-app-1.7-SNAPSHOT.jar"
on a test PDF (scanned) the metadata is parsed, but there's no body text. The pdf is only
parsed by the following:
<meta name="X-Parsed-By" content="org.apache.tika.parser.DefaultParser"/>
<meta name="X-Parsed-By" content="org.apache.tika.parser.pdf.PDFParser"/>

Do I need to do something in particular to invoke the tesseract ocr parser?

> I don't know of any decent open source pure Java OCR libraries, but there are command
line OCR tools like Tesseract (http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/) that could be invoked
by Tika to extract text content (where available) from image files.
