Tim Allison commented on TIKA-2180:
-----------------------------------

I'm able to reproduce this. Thank you for sharing War and Peace! :)

This is at least a bug in tika-batch. It looks like the watchdog thread is being starved,
as is the reporter thread (we should be getting an update every second).

What I can't figure out immediately is how this is pegging all 8 processors on my machine
even though there are only 4 consumers.

I'm not seeing this behavior with massive PDFs -- 4 consumers on 5 files takes 34 seconds,
one consumer takes 66 seconds.

> Project: Tika
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: server
> Affects Versions: 1.13, 1.14
> Environment: Windows OS, Open JDK, 4 core 32 GB RAM

> I observed that if I send multiple requests to Tika (eg. http://localhost:8080/tika)
with around 5MB files, Tika is very slow in completing the action. I tried with ~20 random
files, it took 170 seconds to process all the files in sequence. If I pass all files in parallel,
it took around 780 seconds to process same set of files.
