Subject Re: [jira] [Created] (TRAFODION-24) Removing the Scanner from Trafodion Install
Date Wed, 08 Jul 2015 22:46:28 GMT
Is it possible to:
- Keep the scanner
- Categorize errors into “this dog won’t hunt” vs “may just make it”
[Amanda] It actually does this today (fatal error vs warning)... but
doesn't seem to always get it correct.
- Just display / log those errors
- Proceed in spite of errors
[Amanda] We could do this (right now the installer exits if it gets a
fatal error), but I worry about folks trying to install.. and ending
the install themselves because they see a ton of "errors" on the
screen/log files.

If problems are encountered would the output of the scanner provide
any useful guidance of what possibly the problem may be?

[Amanda]: I currently try to do this (as much as possible) within the
installer scripts. The scanner more just tells you their is a problem.
If we decide to keep the scanner then we could add more helpful tips.
