Subject UIMA Ruta release plans
Date Fri, 03 May 2013 11:22:55 GMT
Hi,

I like to discuss the release plans for UIMA Ruta.

In my opinion, we should release it as soon as possible making the
textmarker-2.0.0 obsolete. A new release itself is justified, because of
the new name and UIMA-2757, UIMA-2756, and especially UIMA-2519.

Here's the list of resolved issues since 2.0.0:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20UIMA%20AND%20fixVersion%20%3D%20%222.0.1ruta%22%20AND%20component%20%3D%20ruta%20AND%20status%20in%20(Resolved%2C%20Closed)%20ORDER%20BY%20priority%20DESC
<https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20UIMA%20AND%20fixVersion%20%3D%20%222.0.1ruta%22%20AND%20component%20%3D%20ruta%20AND%20status%20in%20%28Resolved%2C%20Closed%29%20ORDER%20BY%20priority%20DESC>

Which version should it be?
I'd say we go with 2.0.1 even if the release isn't completely compatible
with textmarker-2.0.0. However, I added an action in the Workbench,
which updates most parts of old textmarker projects (file extensions,
nature, descriptors).

Which issues should be included?
I think it would be OK to have a release only with the issues that are
already (or almost) resolved. I was planning to include at least all
TextRuler issues and the new contributions in 2.0.1, but that will take
too long. UIMA-2758 would be really nice and important, but also some
work. I suppose that UIMA-2834, UIMA-2698, UIMA-2718 (also for
2.4.1SDK), and maybe UIMA-2826 should be resolved.

Here's a list of all open issues:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20UIMA%20AND%20resolution%20%3D%20Unresolved%20AND%20component%20%3D%20ruta%20ORDER%20BY%20priority%20DESC

I there are no objections, then I would start by working towards a
release candidate.

The next release (planned for August) would then be 2.0.2 with the new
contributions, a working rule learning framework, uimaFIT support, field
notation for features, speed optimizations, and the smaller issues.

Best,

Peter
