Richard Eckart de Castilho commented on UIMA-1524:

I have to admit, I am not so much a fan of using an interface to replace a static import,
be it for constants (which was already working before Java 8) or methods. Default methods
are good to implement default behavior in an interface and to allow a kind of multiple inheritance
that is otherwise not available in Java. But I don't think they are a particular good replacement
for static imports - in particular because the inherited default methods become part of the
interface of the class. So I'd prefer avoiding that.

> Components: Core Java Framework
> Affects Versions: 2.3

> Existing methods should be overloaded with an additional Class argument to specify the
exact return type. This changes make down casting of returned objects unnecessary.
