Subject [ANNOUNCE] rsync.apache.org
Date Sat, 26 May 2018 11:36:45 GMT
Hi apache.org mirrors,

For mirroring, apache.org now has 1 rsync server ; formerly 2.

Old situation ; two rsync servers :

     -- rsync.eu.apache.org ; in Europe
     -- rsync.us.apache.org ; in the USA

In DNS, rsync.apache.org pointed to both servers (round-robin).

New situation ; one (new) rsync server :

     -- rsync.apache.org

In DNS, rsync.{eu,us}.apache.org now point to rsync.apache.org.

The new server is very well connected, supporting IPv4 and IPv6.

For technical reasons, the old eu/us servers were not
always in sync. This caused a lot of extra traffic to
mirrors rsyncing from 'rsync.apache.org'. We have advised
mirrors to pick one (eu or us), but some mirrors missed that.

   IMPACT :

-- if you mirror from BOTH rsync.eu.apache.org AND
rsync.us.apache.org, then please change to ONLY
      mirroring from rsync.apache.org.

-- if you mirror from EITHER rsync.eu.apache.org OR
rsync.us.apache.org, then there is no impact,
      since both point to rsync.apache.org.
Of course it would be 'cleaner' to change your
      source host to rsync.apache.org.

Thanks for your support ; regards,

   Henk Penning -- apache.org infrastructure ; dist & mirrors
