I haven't looked at the first Schema, is it actually invalid or is an XMLBeans bug?
If the Schema is invalid, you can use the '-noupa' command-line option to scomp to skip this
check.

I'm using v2 (latest snapshot).  I think in a recent post some
mentioned that the schema is invalid.  Perhaps XMLBeans is too good
and might need a lax  parser.

I get the following:
