Yes - you are right, I am modifying the DOM from Java.
I am not sure how to use the 'Update Thread' though ...
In fact I am using an applet (javax/swing/JApplet) which displays the svg-document 
in a svgCanvas. The applet starts a thread (runnable) that is waiting for changes 
and then calls an update function from the applet again to modify the DOM (depending 
on the changes). 
Can you give me a hint, about how to use the 'Update Thread' ?
