If you just want to have an XHTML div in your document (even though Batik won't do anything with it), you should have: ... so it is recognised as an XHTML element, not an SVG one. If you want to use an SVG 1.2 flowDiv, you need to put it in the Batik extension namespace (unlike ASV where it is accepted in the normal SVG namespace). ...
