The Apache Derby development community is pleased to announce its first 
release after being accepted into the Apache Incubator, Apache Derby

Derby can be downloaded from the following page:


Derby is a pure Java, standards-based relational database engine. Derby 
aims to be an easy to use solution for data management for software 
developers with zero administration for end users.

The release serves as a baseline for future development of Derby, and 
to allow users to begin using an official release. It also contains a 
number of bug fixes and other changes. See the CHANGES file in the 
distribution for a full list of changes.

Derby is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache Software 
Foundation. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until 
a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and 
decision-making process have stabilised in a manner consistent with 
other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not 
necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, 
it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the
