Hi Peter,

Thanks for reporting this defect. I have logged 
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-6943 to track this issue. 
There I wondered what the correct behavior should be and I listed 3 
options. If you have opinions about what's correct, then please add a 
comment to that issue.
