PJ Van Aeken commented on FLINK-1962:

In terms of maintainability, you are undoubtedly right. In terms of complexity, I personally

You either reimplement syntactic sugar code from the Scala Batch API if you wrap the Java
Gelly API or you reimplement graph code from the Java Gelly API if you build on top of the
Scala Batch API. Wrapping the Java Gelly API has the added downside that Scala primitives
don't play nice with the Comparable and Serializable constraints imposed by the Java API.
I have not ran into this problem when building on top of the Scala Batch API.

For me personally, building on top of the Scala Batch API is the quickest way to implement
enough functionalities to evaluate if Scala Gelly is the right way to go for my use case.
I am however open for doing it in a more maintainable way, but then I would require some help
first from someone more experienced with the Java/Scala interoperability in Flink to get me
started. Either way, I would be happy to contribute.
