What you say about not able to lock during compile makes sense.  I forgot we compile then
lock (by necessity) not the other way around.

But I don't follow what you're saying about it being not useful to prevent a drop.  Isn't
that exactly what locks are for?  Which case are you talking about, views, materialized views,
or managed tables?  For views you've convinced me, but not for the others.
