Summary: SecurityExceptions when attempting to use in applet in
                    Java 5 Plug-In
           Product: Log4j
           Version: 1.3alpha
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Other
        AssignedTo: log4j-dev@logging.apache.org
        ReportedBy: jessh@ptc.com

log4j 1.3 alpha 8 triggers throws SecurityExceptions when you attempt to use it
from within an applet in a Java 5 JVM.

It attempts to read a system property during LogManager static initialization
without wrapping this in a try/catch.

[Sorry for the lack of a stack trace. This is *very* easy to reproduce once you
have a test applet using log4j -- I've just not had a chance to do so since
originally encountering this and scrubbing my environment too soon...]
