Subject DO NOT REPLY [Bug 44839] New: SyslogAppender logging to a UNIX domain socket
Date Fri, 18 Apr 2008 00:04:03 GMT
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=44839

Summary: SyslogAppender logging to a UNIX domain socket
           Product: Log4j
           Version: 1.2
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Appender
        AssignedTo: log4j-dev@logging.apache.org
        ReportedBy: gsudduth@gmail.com

It would be very useful to be able to have SyslogAppender be able to log to a
local UNIX domain socket (ie /dev/log). (Apparently most syslogds aren't able
to bind only to localhost so in order to get logs from syslogappender they have
to listen on all interfaces which can cause security problems.)
