Subject [jira] [Commented] (LOG4J2-292) FastFileAppender overwrites previous log entries

Asaf Erlich commented on LOG4J2-292:

Hello, first of all thank you for fixing the issue (unverified). I have a question and while
this might not be the best place to ask it I didn't know any other place to ask. Do you guys
have any estimate on when the next beta version (2.0-beta8) will be released? I'm aware of
the fact that I can pull from the source and possibly build it myself, but when I tried to
build at home I ran into some issues (probably to do with intellij and not log4j2 at all).
You see, even though this might not be recommended we are using log4j2 (currently beta release
7) in an application being built for a client and would like to continue using it. I just
want to know if you have an eta on it. The previous release pattern I found at this link
shows a new one is released about once a month. I understand you have no obligation to release
at any time. I was only wondering. If you can recommend a better place to ask such a question
please direct me. Thank you.

> When I use a fast file appender it seems to start from the beginning of the file every
time, overwriting previous entries. What I mean is that if the program starts, then I start
again. The previous entries at the very beginning of the file are overwritten.
> It's possible that the fact that the entries span multiple lines might make it worse.
Either way it always seems to start at the beginning of the file, instead of at the end (like
log4j 1.2.x did).
> Maybe I need to try the regular file appender instead of the fast one and see if the
same behavior occurs.
> I'm not at my workstation so I can't recreate it at the moment, but if you have trouble
recreating it let me know.
