Subject [jira] [Commented] (RANGER-979) Kafka TagSync
Date Wed, 07 Sep 2016 16:13:21 GMT

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RANGER-979?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15471038#comment-15471038

Nigel Jones commented on RANGER-979:

I'm not familiar with CDAP (just been reading). So the tagging done in cdap would be very
similar to how one tags metadata in atlas - which then via the tag sync process can be used
by ranger policies such that they can be defined based on classifications rather than resources?

So this is presumably meaning extending the current tag sync which supports atlas (as at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/RANGER/Tag+Synchronizer+Installation+and+Configuration
) -- which already comes via kafka, to alternatively support tags coming from CDAP?

> A lot of external services which are integrated to use Ranger or can be integrated to
use ranger as authorization provider uses Kafka to publish their tags/metadata.
> One of such services for example is CDAP (Cask Data Application Platform) which emits
tags to kafka.
> It will be a nice feature to support tagsync from Kafka to allow such external services
to use the nice tag based authorization model of ranger.
