i would suggest the following:

1. copy avgardm.ttf into ~/Library/Fonts

2. remove ~/.fop/fop-fonts.cache

3. change your config to:

      <fonts>
<auto-detect/>
      </fonts>

4. re-run FOP (but don't run TTFReader)
